Very rare silver alloy plaque featuring side profile of WW1 German fighter pilot. Profile in high bas-relief mounted on a walnut plaque measuring 10” x 11.” No visible identifying marks. Subject was reportedly a fighter ace second in command to Manfred von Richthofen (“The Red Baron”), as leader of the “Flying Circus-Jagdgeschwader 1.” He then took command when Richthofen was shot down. Museum quality; only example known to exist. Acquired from private New York collection in 1991.
