Colonel Charles L. Faddis served in the Mediterranean Theatre fighting Erwin Rommel, who commanded the Afrika Korps. He had previously served in WW1. Before 1942, he served as US congressman from Pennsylvania. During WW2, he was a decorated infantry officer who was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
