Authentic matched pair of very rare WW1 era German cavalry saddlebags identified as item #31 from the collection. This set includes a right-side bag featuring an external pouch originally designed to carry a horseshoe, and a left-side rider's bag with a similar saddle-fixing- apparatus as the later ( more well known) WW2 type issued by the Wehrmacht around 1934 called "Packtaschen 34". Historically, these earlier WW1 bags were also reportedly reissued for use by motorcycle troops "Kradschutzen" during the Second World War. These high quality brown leather bags proved very useful for Cavalry Reconnaissance as well as for Mobile Motorcycle units because of their durability and adaptability. The leather is approximately 100 years old and retains a deep brown patina. (See condition statement.)
