Description:
This is a rare, original late World War II German cavalry M40 rear saddlebag, also known as a Packtasche. Unlike the earlier M34 bags, this model is constructed from durable reddish-brown pebbled leather. It serves as the rider's bag, intended for storing personal items in the field.
The bag features the maker's stamp "Vraier-Frankfurt" and the date "M1940" on the leather. The metal catches are made of grey alloy and are marked "D+C". A significant feature of this example is the inclusion of the rare triangular leather connector piece, used for coupling the bags (documented in Paul Johnson's Horses of the German Army WW II, p. 98). This is an authentic piece of Wehrmacht field gear.
