Very rare pre-WW2 Italian carabinieri parade dress tunic worn by Rome’s police security corps. Elaborate and highly ornamented, this dark-blue, double-breasted wool tunic has silver buttons and red piping along cuffs & edges. Worn by Elite Horse Guard Police Corps (small select division assigned exclusively to city of Rome) from 1935-1936. (In Italian: Guardie del Reparto a Cavallo del Corpo degli Agenti di Pubblica Sicurezza—Divisione Speciale per la Capitoli.) This is the only unmolested carabinieri tunic with Victor Emmanuel (Royal House of Savoy) chained metallic embellishment known to exist. Both shoulders bear military-style epaulets with metallic fringe & crescent base. Right arm displays series of white braided cords (aiguillettes) that most likely denote the wearer is an aide to a high-ranking police security official. Given its age at 90 years old, this tunic is in surprisingly good condition, (see photos.) Metal part of each epaulet has small, irregular depressions from normal wear & tear. Collar is constructed of ornamental silver bouillon, red wool piping, and a pair of silver stars in front. Extremely scarce item from the golden age of Italian military style. As an added bonus, you’ll receive the period cocked hat (baretto feluca); measures 16 inches wide & 16 inches tall with plume. Mint condition. A must have for any serious European military collection.
