Pair of German WW2 Era Horsemans Proficiency Badges in Silver and Bronze. Starting in 1930 these badges (Deutsches Reitabzeichen) were awarded for horsemanship in three grades: gold, silver and bronze. Originally a civilian award, it was later adopted by the Wehrmacht Cavalry during World War 2, and approved for wear on service uniforms. One of the minimum requirements for receiving this award was being able to stand upright on top of the saddle holding onto ONLY the reins. Hermann Fegelein, the commander of the 9th special services cavalry division, is proudly seen wearing this badge in many photos. This type of design features a mounted horseman astride a prancing horse encompassed within an oak leaf wreath. The casting is crisp and clear. The rear of both badges is clearly marked: Steinhauer & Luck, Ludershein Ges. Gesch. Zentralkom. Eleistungspr. W.U. Kaltbl -PF.
